In a recent statement, renowned Nollywood actor Pete Edochie firmly refuted the latest rumors regarding his death, which have resurfaced yet again. The 78-year-old, affectionately known as Ebubedike, expressed his frustration over these recurring fabrications that have circulated since 2012, often claiming he has passed away under various circumstances.
Edochie, who is celebrated for his contributions to the film industry, highlighted that this latest hoax suggested he had been rushed to the hospital and had died, with a supposed confirmation from his son, Uche Edochie, circulating on social media. In a telephone interview, he responded to the claims, stating, “I’m alive and will die when my maker calls me home.”
The actor shared that he has been falsely reported dead several times, recalling instances where rumors claimed he died while traveling or in accidents. “I have been killed about seven times,” he remarked, recounting a particularly absurd scenario where a call informed his wife of his supposed death just before she was set to attend church.
As Edochie approaches his 79th birthday on March 7, he attributes his good health to his family’s heritage of longevity, mentioning that his father lived to the age of 96. He recalled advice from the late Nigerian leader Nnamdi Azikwe, who suggested that those wishing harm will not outlive the person they target. “All those people that wished Zik death died before him,” Edochie noted, reflecting on the wisdom he learned.
Despite the unfounded rumors, Edochie remains an active figure in the entertainment industry, recognized with accolades such as the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards Industry Merit Award. His resilience and dedication to his craft continue to inspire many.
