VIP Jeoun Suspends Planned Transport Fare Hike Following Government Intervention

VIP Jeoun, one of Ghana’s leading intercity transport operators, has announced the suspension of its planned fare increases, following an urgent communication from the Minister of Transport.

The decision comes in response to a broader industry move led by the Alliance of Drivers Ghana, which had earlier announced a 20% increase in transport fares, effective Monday, March 17. The alliance justified the fare hike by citing rising fuel prices, escalating engine oil costs, and the increasing prices of vehicle spare parts, which have placed a financial strain on transport operators.

Initially, VIP Jeoun had planned to implement its own fare adjustments starting in April, aligning with the broader industry trend. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 18, the company revealed that it had opted to suspend the planned fare hikes.

“VIP Jeoun Transport received an urgent communication at the request of the Hon. Minister of Transport. Directors of VIP, having taken notice of the said communication, have resolved to STAY the reported increases,” the statement read.

VIP Jeoun’s Stance on Fair Competition

The transport company also emphasized its commitment to fair competition and ethical business practices, ensuring that passengers are not unduly burdened by fare increases.

“VIP Jeoun Transport, a company limited by guarantee, is committed to fair competition and trading practices,” the statement concluded.
