The Volta River Authority and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (VRA/NEDCO) recently took significant steps to improve its customer engagement by hosting a community outreach initiative at the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani. This event was part of the company’s broader celebration of Customer Week and aimed to strengthen its relationship with local residents and traders.
Under the leadership of Ing Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager, the VRA/NEDCO team actively interacted with market women and other attendees, providing essential information about the company’s services while addressing common misconceptions. Ing Odoi Addo emphasized the necessity of building trust between the utility provider and its customers, especially in light of circulating rumors about power theft.
“We want to dispel any doubts regarding our operations,” he stated. “Our aim is to enhance customer understanding of our services and nurture a stronger connection with the community.”
In an unexpected twist, the outreach program also included educational sessions on breast cancer awareness, complete with free screening services. This addition reflects VRA/NEDCO’s commitment to the health and welfare of the community, extending their role beyond just power supply.
Ing Michael Beamer, a technical team member, used the platform to alert customers about the dangers of illegal power connections. He warned that such practices could lead to severe legal ramifications and safety hazards, including potential fire outbreaks.
The initiative was met with positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical safety tips and clarifications offered. However, some attendees voiced concerns regarding service delivery issues, urging the company to maintain open lines of communication and enhance its response times.
In response to the feedback, the Sunyani Area Office has committed to continuing similar community engagement efforts, aiming to promote transparency, customer satisfaction, and safety awareness throughout the region.
