🇮🇳✈️ PM Modi Touches Down in Ghana for Historic Diplomatic Visit

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has officially arrived in Accra, Ghana, marking a monumental moment in Ghana–India relations. This visit is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades and signals renewed energy in diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.

The announcement of his arrival was made on Citi FM’s official X (Twitter) page on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, with a caption highlighting the significance of the event:

🗣️ Strategic Bilateral Talks and MoUs

At a press briefing in Accra, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed the visit’s purpose. A series of high-level bilateral talks will take place between Prime Minister Modi and President John Dramani Mahama, with key focus areas including:

  • 🏥 Healthcare

  • 🛡️ Defence Cooperation

  • 💉 Vaccine Production Hub for Africa

  • 🤝 Establishment of a Joint Commission

“We are entering a new phase of partnership that focuses on shared development, health security, and mutual growth,” Ablakwa said.

Following the talks, several cooperation agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed, paving the way for collaborative projects between Ghana and India.

🎖️ National Honour for Prime Minister Modi

To honour the Indian leader’s visit, a state banquet will be hosted by President Mahama, during which Prime Minister Modi will be conferred with Ghana’s highest state distinction— the Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana.

This symbolic gesture places Modi among a distinguished list of world leaders recognized for their contributions to Ghana’s international relations and development.

🧵 A Legacy of Friendship Renewed

India and Ghana share a bond that dates back to the days of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Jawaharlal Nehru, whose collaboration birthed the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War. Today, that legacy is being revitalized through strategic cooperation in education, trade, technology, and diplomacy.
