Bono Health Director Urges Youth to Avoid Unprotected Sex Amid HIV Surge

In a critical address to local youth, Mr. George Agyemang, the Acting Municipal Director of Health for Wenchi in the Bono Region, has issued a strong warning against the dangers of unprotected sex and having multiple sexual partners. During a recent review meeting, he highlighted a troubling rise in HIV infections within the municipality.

Mr. Agyemang reported that there are currently 2,153 individuals living with HIV and AIDS in the Wenchi municipality, with the prevalence rate at 2.5 percent, positioning it among the highest in the Bono Region. He emphasized that the responsibility of preventing new infections lies not just with the youth but also with couples, urging them to practice fidelity and avoid extra-marital relationships.

Speaking under the theme “Stakeholder’s Engagement and Efforts in Achieving Universal Health Coverage,” Agyemang underscored the indiscriminate nature of the virus, warning that those leading promiscuous lifestyles are at greater risk of infection. He advised anyone struggling to manage their sexual impulses to consistently use condoms as a protective measure.

The health director’s message is a call to action for the community to take HIV prevention seriously and work together to reduce the transmission rates of this serious health issue.
