Foreign Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa Provides Health Update on Vice President Opoku-Agyemang

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has addressed recent rumours surrounding the health of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, assuring the public that she is in good health and steadily recovering.

The Vice President reportedly fell ill after fulfilling her official duties on Friday, March 28, 2025. She received initial treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) before being flown abroad for further care. However, unverified health reports have circulated widely on social media.

During an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, April 6, Mr. Ablakwa responded to the speculations, crediting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s improvement to the collective prayers and support of Ghanaians.

“Some fears have emerged regarding the health of our mother, the first female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. I want to assure you that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers, from all of us, Ghanaians at home and abroad, have really worked,” he said.

“I’ve heard directly from her, so I know what I am talking about, and she’s doing well,” he added.

Mr. Ablakwa also urged the public to ignore false reports and malicious commentary, calling the health rumours part of an orchestrated smear campaign.

“Please disregard all that vicious, unGhanaian evil propaganda. Our mother is doing very well, and very soon, she will return to her duties, serving Ghana, making us all proud, and especially inspiring our young girls, our daughters, to know that there is nothing our women cannot achieve. Women are as capable as men, and they can do it better,” he stressed.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is expected to return to Ghana soon and resume her official duties.
