Ghana Backs Trump’s Gaza Peace Proposal as Tensions Rise

Ghana has publicly backed Trump’s Gaza peace proposal, welcoming it as a meaningful move toward resolving the long-standing Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement acknowledging the plan’s potential to mitigate civilian suffering and to pave a route toward “a just, comprehensive and lasting peace” in the region.

The proposal, which has already received acceptance from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines several measures: the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, prisoner exchanges, and the release of hostages held by Hamas. It also proposes a reconstruction effort for Gaza, the establishment of a special economic zone, and governance by a provisional technocratic Palestinian committee overseen by an international body chaired by Trump.

Hamas, while agreeing to free the remaining hostages, has raised objections to certain elements of the plan and is calling for further negotiation.

Ghana’s Position

Ghana reaffirmed its support for the two-state solution, envisioning Israel and a future Palestinian state existing peacefully and securely together. In its statement, the Foreign Ministry expressed willingness to engage with global partners to revive dialogue and rejuvenate momentum in the peace process. The government underscored that any lasting resolution must acknowledge both Palestinian rights and Israeli security needs.

While Germany noted that past US-led peace initiatives — including Trump’s 2020 “Deal of the Century” — had been rejected by Palestinian leaders for favoring Israel disproportionately, Ghana has maintained a balanced posture. The government said it remains cautiously optimistic that this new proposal could serve as a credible launching point for renewed talks.
