On May 2, 2025, a significant stride was taken towards bolstering fire safety and providing job opportunities in Ghana as the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration is set to recruit 5,000 Fire Service Assistants, marking a dual win for national safety measures and youth employment.
The Honourable Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, underscoring its potential to foster youth employment and contribute to national progress. This move aligns with the government’s vision of a 24-hour economy, designed to amplify economic activities beyond the usual business hours, thereby enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and job creation.
The Honourable Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, extended his gratitude to the Interior Minister for implementing this project. He called for the development of modules similar to those of other agencies under the Ministry to further empower the youth.
Mr. Malik Basintale, Chief Executive Officer of YEA, and Ag. Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong highlighted the importance of this partnership in fulfilling their respective responsibilities effectively.
This recruitment drive will not only reinforce GNFS’s operational capabilities but will also play an integral role in the country’s development. It underscores the government’s dedication to empowering the youth and improving the efficiency of the Ghana National Fire Service, a critical need in light of recent fire incidents across the nation.
Both GNFS and YEA are eager to see the positive outcomes of this collaboration and are committed to achieving the outlined objectives.
