The Minority in Parliament is demanding urgent clarification from the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) over the medical credentials of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly, following her removal from the board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) by President John Dramani Mahama.
Daly, who has become a familiar face on health-related television programmes, particularly on GHOne TV, has been described publicly as a medical doctor. But in a letter to the GMDC, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, questioned whether she is legally licensed to practice medicine in Ghana.
The Minority’s inquiry comes amid growing public interest in Daly’s professional qualifications, following her high-profile media presence and her now-revoked appointment to the NHIA board.
In the letter dated 30 May, Dr. Afriye asked the GMDC to confirm whether Dr. Daly is currently registered and licensed, or has ever been registered in any capacity—temporary or permanent—with the Council.
He also questioned whether it is permissible under Ghanaian law for individuals not licensed by the Council to publicly present themselves as doctors or offer medical advice.
“As the regulatory body responsible for medical practice in Ghana, your response is critical to protecting public health and maintaining professional standards,” Dr. Afriye wrote.
He further urged the GMDC to consult with its counterpart in the United States to determine whether Dr. Daly is listed on any American medical register, given suggestions that she may have trained abroad. He requested a response within one week.
President Mahama revoked Dr. Daly’s appointment from the NHIA board earlier this week, though no official reason was cited. The move, however, has intensified public interest in the accuracy of her medical claims and credentials.
The Ghana Medical and Dental Council is yet to respond publicly to the request.
