Paa Kwesi Nduom Declares Intent to Contest Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem MCE Post

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, founder and leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) municipality in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The announcement came via a Facebook post on January 11, where Dr. Nduom addressed growing speculation about his potential return to national politics, especially as a presidential candidate. Instead, he expressed a desire to serve his local community directly through grassroots leadership.

“This is for those agitating for me to join the 2024 presidential race — take note,” he wrote.
“I want to be elected to serve as the Chief Executive of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem municipality.”

According to Dr. Nduom, his goal is to demonstrate effective governance by improving the living standards of residents through cleaner environments, modern infrastructure, job creation, universal education, and quality healthcare.

A Return to Local Governance Roots

Dr. Nduom’s political career spans decades. From 2005 to 2009, he served as Member of Parliament for Komenda on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP). He also held ministerial positions under the Kufuor administration.

In 2008, he contested the presidency on the CPP ticket, but later formed the PPP in 2012 after breaking away from the party. He ran for president under the PPP banner in 2012 and 2016. However, in the 2020 elections, PPP was represented by Brigette Dzogbenuku, while Dr. Nduom took a step back from public political life.

Now, with the 2024 elections on the horizon, his renewed political ambition is focused on local transformation rather than national leadership.

“I want to show our people in practical terms how to administer an area for the benefit of the citizens,” he emphasized.

Dr. Nduom’s declaration sets the stage for a potentially impactful local campaign as he seeks to leverage his experience to directly uplift the KEEA municipality.
