In a troubling incident that has sparked widespread outrage, law enforcement officials in Accra have apprehended two women linked to the assault of a 12-year-old girl. The arrests occurred in the La area, following the dissemination of a disturbing video on social media that captured the event.
The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest of 22-year-old Precious Giftan Mesopeh and her 25-year-old sister, Princess Giftan Mesopeh, on December 31, 2025. Public reaction to the video, which depicted the women taking turns to whip the child with canes, was swift and intense.
According to a police statement released on January 4, 2026, the assault occurred on December 30, 2025, near La Roman Junior High School. The victim’s mother promptly reported the incident to the authorities, presenting her daughter, who bore visible injuries from the attack. Law enforcement provided a medical report form for further examination and took a statement from the victim’s mother to aid in their investigation.
Initial reports indicate that the brutal attack stemmed from a dispute involving the victim and a seven-year-old boy, Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects. Following this disagreement, the two women allegedly confronted the girl at her home, leading to the violent episode.
Additionally, a third individual, identified as Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, aged 49, who is the mother of the arrested women and a fashion designer, is currently at large. Authorities are actively searching for her, as she has reportedly traveled to the Volta Region.
The two women in custody have been formally charged and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. They are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, January 5, 2026. The shocking nature of the video has ignited public condemnation and calls for justice.
