Police smash armed robbery syndicate — 10 arrested, 3 killed in shootout

police smash armed robbery syndicate after a fierce operation in Kumasi, which led to ten arrests and the killing of three suspects during a gun battle. The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the raid followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering on the group’s violent activities.

According to the police, the syndicate had been linked to a series of residential and street robberies in communities such as Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Denchembuoso, and Appiadu. Victims were attacked with weapons, and in some cases, personal belongings like laptops, phones, and household appliances were forcibly taken.

The armed gang opened fire when officers closed in on their hideout. In the exchange, three suspects were fatally shot, while others sustained injuries before being captured. One suspect, who was critically injured, was rushed to a hospital but later confirmed dead. The rest were taken into custody for further interrogation.

Recovered from the hideout were pump-action shotguns, locally manufactured pistols, large quantities of ammunition, and stolen electronic gadgets. Police believe these items had been used in previous robberies and were being prepared for future crimes.

During preliminary questioning, one of the suspects confessed to his role in several attacks and admitted that sexual assault had occurred in one of the robbery incidents. The police described this admission as disturbing and assured the public that justice would be pursued through the courts.

The Service has since named Yahaya Nuhu as the only member of the gang still on the run. A manhunt has been launched, and residents have been urged to share credible information that may lead to his arrest.

The Inspector General of Police praised the officers for their swift action and assured the public that more resources would be committed to dismantling criminal networks across the country. According to the police, sustained community cooperation will remain essential in preventing similar attacks in the future.
