Empowering Retirees: NARPO Hails Kofi Boakye’s Elevation to Ghana Police Council

In a statement this week, the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO-Ghana) formally congratulated COP (Rtd.) Nathan Kofi Boakye on his selection to represent retired senior officers on the newly constituted Ghana Police Council. Issued by DCOP (Rtd.) George Anko-Bil, National Secretary of NARPO-Ghana, the message lauded Boakye’s decades of service and commitment to law enforcement—qualities the association believes will enrich council deliberations and advocacy for retirees.

DCOP Anko-Bil’s address praised Boakye’s track record of integrity and operational excellence, noting that his appointment “is a testament to your dedication, expertise, and leadership.” He added that with Boakye on the Council, NARPO-Ghana expects accelerated progress toward formal constitutional recognition of the association during the ongoing National Constitutional Review process.

President John Dramani Mahama swore in the 11-member Ghana Police Council on June 10, 2025, under Article 201 of the 1992 Constitution, with Vice-President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang presiding as chair. Alongside COP (Rtd.) Boakye and the NARPO-Ghana representative, the Council includes the Minister for the Interior, the Attorney-General, the Inspector-General of Police, legal and civil-society nominees, and senior and junior ranks of the Police Service.

Tasked with safeguarding professionalism, transparency, and accountability across the Police Service, the Council will oversee promotions, postings, and disciplinary matters while upholding human-rights standards. NARPO-Ghana’s endorsement underscores a broader push to ensure that retired officers remain influential stakeholders in shaping Ghana’s security and policing policies.
