Government Reviews Curfew in Nkwanta South, Oti Region Amid Ongoing Security Measures

Curfew in Nkwanta South Municipality Reviewed; Weapons Ban Remains in Force

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), has announced a revision of the curfew hours imposed on Nkwanta Township and its surrounding communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

Acting on the recommendation of the Oti Regional Security Council and through an Executive Instrument, the curfew has been reviewed to run from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Thursday, June 26, 2025.

Government Calls for Calm and Non-Violence

In the official statement, the government appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to remain calm and peaceful amid current tensions. The public is encouraged to adopt non-violent approaches to resolving conflicts and to actively participate in efforts to maintain peace and order.

Continued Ban on Weapons

Authorities emphasized that a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons remains strictly in effect across the municipality.

“Anyone found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution,” the statement warned.

Security Efforts Ongoing

This curfew adjustment forms part of ongoing security efforts to stabilize the area and prevent further unrest. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring lasting peace in the Oti Region.

The statement was officially issued in Accra on June 26, 2025, and signed by the Interior Minister.
