The Sunyani Airport, soon to be completed and commissioned for operations to start latest next year January 2022 will bring economic benefits to surrounding regions and other countries in the sub-region. According to the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, though the airport is sited in the Bono Regional capital Sunyani, people in Bono East and Ahafo Regions all stand a chance of benefiting from the project when completed.
“The Airport when completed is going to serve five Regions; Bono East and Ahafo Regions. This is Savanna Region and from Bono East this is North. … From Kintampo to Yeji it is easy for someone to come here [Sunyani] instead of going to Tamale. ..Apart from that, our enclave is Ivory Coast borders. They are our brothers and sisters, and they are likely to access our Airport”, the Minister said.
Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene spoke on Ark in the morning show hosted by Kwabena Obeng Akfrofi while giving updates on the ongoing Airport and other projects in the region. “Three days ago, I went to the site with my Chief Director together with the Bono Regional Police Commander unannounced. …by January next year, the airport will be completed for usage”, Hon. Owusu Banahene assured the people adding: “What is left and engineers are currently doing is the bitumen work and arrival hall”.
