Karaga Curfew Ends; Government Maintains Arms Ban

The curfew in Karaga Township, situated in Ghana’s Northern Region, has been officially lifted due to a notable enhancement in the security climate, as announced by government officials. The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, made this decision based on recommendations from the National Security Council, supported by an Executive Instrument.

Previously imposed to address security challenges, the curfew’s removal is effective immediately. However, government representatives emphasize the importance of continued vigilance and peaceful coexistence among the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and residents of the area. Community members are encouraged to engage in dialogue and resolve disputes amicably.

Despite the lifting of the curfew, a strict prohibition on the possession of firearms remains. The government has issued a stern warning that individuals found with weapons or any offensive items in Karaga and its surrounding areas will face arrest and legal action.

The Ministry of the Interior stresses that maintaining peace requires collective effort from all stakeholders, as initiatives to reinforce stability in the district move forward.
