Chorkor Beach Cleanup Spurs Plans for Festival Revival

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is taking significant steps towards revitalizing cultural heritage and boosting economic prospects in the coastal town of Chorkor. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Municipal Chief Executive, announced plans to rejuvenate the Kpaashimo Festival, aligning it with ongoing beach cleanup efforts.

During a recent visit to the Chorkor Electoral Area, Mr. Allotey observed the beach cleanup initiative, which aims to enhance environmental sanitation and public health while restoring the scenic coastline. He assured local residents and fisherfolk that the festival’s revival is being carefully planned to meet community aspirations.

The decision to temporarily halt the festival was strategic, allowing for a comprehensive reorganization to ensure it reflects the community’s cultural interests and economic needs. The engagement with residents highlighted key topics such as sanitation, security, and the long-term development of Chorkor’s coastline.

Mr. Allotey emphasized the potential of clean beaches to attract tourism investments, including hotel developments, which could provide job opportunities for local youth and stimulate the local economy. The Mayor believes that the beach’s restoration is pivotal for broader economic transformation and investor attraction.

Although no specific timeline has been set for the festival’s return or the completion of the beach restoration, the ongoing efforts reflect a commitment to improving livelihoods and fostering community growth.
