Curfew Ends in Karaga Following Two Weeks of Chieftaincy Calm

The government has officially ended the curfew imposed on Karaga and its surrounding areas in the Northern Region, following two weeks of heightened security measures due to chieftaincy conflicts. This decision was announced by the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Thursday, backed by the National Security Council’s advice.

The curfew, initially enforced on April 15, was a response to escalating tensions over local chieftaincy disputes, necessitating nightly restrictions from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. A slight adjustment to 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM was made on April 20 as the situation showed signs of improvement.

Despite the lifting of the curfew, a ban on the possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons remains in place. The Ministry has stated that individuals found in violation of this ban will face arrest and prosecution. Government officials are urging community leaders, residents, and the youth to engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve ongoing issues.

The authorities continue to encourage cooperation among local chiefs and opinion leaders to maintain peace and stability in the region.
