A widespread network outage has left thousands of Starlink users without internet access in parts of the United States and around the world.
The issue began around 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, according to user reports on DownDetector. Affected users in several U.S. cities reported being unable to browse the web, stream videos, or send messages.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, provides satellite-based internet using low-Earth orbit satellites and is especially vital for remote communities and regions experiencing conflict, such as Ukraine.
Visitors to Starlink’s website were met with an error message reading:
“Upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. Retried and the latest reset reason: connection timeout.”
Before the site went offline, it displayed a notice:
“Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating.”
Starlink is currently in a network outage and we are actively implementing a solution. We appreciate your patience, we’ll share an update once this issue is resolved.

DownDetector recorded spikes in outage reports from major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Boston, Seattle, Detroit, San Francisco, Dallas, New York, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Chicago. Canadian cities like Toronto and Montreal were also affected. Reports also surged from Ukraine, indicating a global impact.
The full scale of the disruption remains unclear, but social media posts on platforms like X and Reddit confirm that users across North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia have experienced sudden loss of connectivity, often accompanied by messages such as “no healthy upstream.”
While Starlink has experienced outages in the past, incidents of this magnitude are rare. Further updates from the company are expected as investigations continue.
