Baikonur Ready for Progress MS-34 Launch to Space Station

The Baikonur Cosmodrome is in the final stages of preparation for the scheduled launch of the Progress MS-34 cargo spacecraft, which is set to deliver essential supplies to the International Space Station (ISS). On April 23, the Soyuz-2.1a rocket, equipped with the Progress MS-34, was positioned on the launch pad and raised to a vertical stance, marking a key step in the launch process.

Extensive pre-launch checks have been ongoing at the facility for three days, focusing on verifying the readiness of both the ground infrastructure and the spacecraft systems. These rigorous inspections are critical to ensuring a successful mission.

The launch is slated for April 26 at 5:00 pm Astana time from Site 31 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The mission will carry upwards of 2,500 kilograms of supplies to the ISS, including fuel, food, water, sanitary products, and oxygen to support the station’s atmosphere. Notably, the cargo will also include a new Orlan ISS spacesuit, designated No. 8, for future spacewalks.

According to information from Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, approximately 483 kilograms of the payload consists of food items for the astronauts aboard the ISS.
