In a strategic move to enhance its transportation infrastructure, Ghana is intensifying collaborations with China to modernize its public transport systems. The initiative, led by Deputy Minister of Transport Dorcas Affo-Toffey, involved a high-level visit to Xiangyang, a prominent city in China’s Hubei Province.
The delegation, which included officials from Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), visited Xiangyang Tenglong Automobile Co., Ltd, a leading vehicle manufacturer with substantial assets and advanced production capabilities. This visit aimed to explore potential vehicle acquisitions and technical partnerships to expand Ghana’s national fleet.
Xiangyang Tenglong is known for its diverse range of products, including new energy buses and intelligent transportation solutions. The Ghanaian delegation assessed the suitability of these innovations, particularly Suzhou’s Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) smart electric buses, for local road conditions and safety standards.
This engagement underscores Ghana’s commitment to providing efficient, reliable, and safe public transport, aligning with broader goals of economic development and environmental sustainability. The collaboration is expected to bring significant improvements to the country’s transport sector.
