In a significant shift for Windows users, Microsoft has announced major changes to its update process, impacting over a billion devices globally. The tech giant is addressing long-standing user frustrations regarding unexpected updates and limited control over installation timing.
Aria Hanson from Microsoft detailed these improvements in a recent blog post, emphasizing user feedback as the catalyst for this transformation. ‘We are excited to enhance the Windows update experience, offering more autonomy while ensuring security remains paramount,’ Hanson stated.
The updated system allows users to bypass updates during initial setup, pause updates indefinitely, and choose when to reboot or shut down their devices without mandatory updates. This initiative aims to resolve common complaints about disruptive update processes.
With over a billion Windows 11 users, this update is set to streamline user experience before the upcoming Windows 10 upgrade deadlines, expected in less than six months.
These changes have been positively received, with industry observers noting Microsoft’s unexpected responsiveness to user needs. The rollout is currently underway for Windows Insiders and will soon be available to the broader user base.
