Bynillin nicotine vials, cartons of Postinor-2, a female oral contraceptive, cosmetics, medical equipment, Chinese herbal remedies, and some aphrodisiacs worth GHS 10 million have all been seized by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). At the Adepa Landfill site in Nsawam, 2,600 bottles of bynillin nicotine and 100 cartons of postinor 2, together with other subpar supplies, will be burned. The drugs brought from China were confiscated, according to Mr. Vigil Edward Prah-Eshun, Head of Intelligence, FDA, since the Authority had not registered them. He said that “the confiscated postinor 2 arrived in distinct consignments, the packaging material was separated from the packing itself, an indicator that the individual was determined to manufacture the items here in Ghana.”
According to Mr. Prah-Eshun, the FDA would keep dispatching officials to the markets every day to observe activity and confirm that the goods being offered to consumers were safe. “By this seizure, we want to let the public know that we are concerned in preserving public health and continuing to work and not dozing off at the office, and we thank the public who continue to notify us on some of these concerns,” he added. The Head of Intelligence said that Okaishie had confiscated some of the narcotics and that the Authority had begun judicial proceedings against roughly 10 persons. Following the confiscation of the medications, he claimed that several had received administrative penalties based on the seriousness of the offense.
Before making a purchase, Mr. Prah-Eshun asked the general public to verify a product’s validity and expiration date.
