A US immigration attorney is encouraging Ghanaians to continue their applications for immigrant visas, despite an ongoing suspension of visa issuance affecting 75 countries, including Ghana. Rhoda Frimpong, an immigration expert based in the United States, has highlighted the importance of initiating the visa process now to avoid extended waiting periods.
In a recent online address, Frimpong explained that while the issuance of visas is on hold, interviews are still being scheduled. She stressed that waiting for the suspension to be lifted could lead to significant delays, particularly for Ghanaians who already face two-year waiting times for interview appointments.
The US Embassy in Accra is currently scheduling interviews for cases that were documentarily qualified as of February 2024. Frimpong noted that the initial stages of the visa process, such as petition approval and document qualification, often take several months, potentially extending to over a year.
By starting the application process now, individuals can position themselves ahead in the queue once the suspension is lifted. Frimpong advised against letting the current visa issuance pause deter Ghanaians from pursuing their immigration plans, emphasizing the long-term benefits of early application.
