Bawku Municipality Curfew Extended Amid Security Measures

The Ghanaian government has extended the existing curfew in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region. This decision, effective from Tuesday, April 28, 2026, was made following recommendations from the National Security Council. The curfew hours are set from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

The Ministry of the Interior has urged local leaders, including chiefs, elders, and youth, to exercise patience and prioritize peaceful methods to address ongoing challenges in the region.

In addition to the curfew, a strict prohibition on carrying weapons, including firearms and ammunition, is in place. The use of motorbikes is also banned, with authorities warning that anyone found violating these restrictions will face arrest and prosecution.

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in Bawku, urging all residents to comply with the new regulations.

The Ministry continues to work closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of all citizens in the affected areas.
