Curfew in Northern Ghana Reviewed Amid Security Concerns

The Ministry of the Interior in Ghana has adjusted the curfew hours for Karaga Township and its surrounding areas in the Northern Region, effective April 20, 2026. The new curfew hours are from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM, as mandated by an Executive Instrument following consultations with the National Security Council. This measure aims to address security challenges in the region.

Authorities have urged local leaders, including chiefs and elders, to promote peace and encourage non-violent approaches to conflict resolution. The government emphasizes the importance of community cooperation to maintain stability.

A strict ban has been placed on the possession of firearms and offensive weapons within the township and its environs. Those found in violation of this directive will face arrest and prosecution as part of efforts to deter potential violence.

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security across the region. The ministry continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes that these measures will foster a safer environment for all residents.
