GETFund Allocates GH¢199.47m for FSHS and TVET Arrears Clearance

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has allocated GH¢199,471,691 to address outstanding debts for perishable supplies related to the Free Senior High School (FSHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. This financial move covers arrears from October 2025 to February 2026 for senior high schools and from October to December 2025 for TVET institutions.

This payment underscores the government’s commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations to suppliers who play a crucial role in providing essential supplies to educational institutions across the country. The disbursement aims to alleviate operational challenges faced by suppliers, facilitating the smooth delivery of essential goods to students.

According to a statement from GETFund, this release of funds is a strategic step to mitigate recent anxieties within the education sector concerning procurement and feeding logistics. With this financial support, GETFund reaffirms its dedication to timely payments and ongoing collaboration with educational stakeholders to enhance service delivery nationwide.

Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service (GES), confirmed the release, emphasizing that efforts are underway to ensure the efficient distribution of funds to schools. Monitoring and accountability measures have been established to guarantee that the funds are used appropriately, supporting the intended educational purposes.

In a recent high-level meeting, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, along with key stakeholders, addressed the ongoing procurement and funding challenges. Although the meeting concluded without definitive resolutions, further discussions are planned to tackle these issues, especially those affecting student feeding under the FSHS program.

Reports of tension between GETFund Administrator Paul Adjei and the Minister of Education surfaced after the meeting, linked to disagreements over procurement processes. Despite these challenges, the 2026 budget allocates GH¢4.2 billion from GETFund to support the Free SHS program, highlighting its priority in the national education agenda.
