Ghana Adjusts Gushegu Curfew Amidst Security Concerns

The Ministry of the Interior in Ghana has announced a revision to the curfew hours in the Gushegu District, situated in the Northern Region, following security assessments. Effective from April 20, 2026, the curfew will extend from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM daily, as decreed by an Executive Instrument under the advice of the National Security Council.

The government is appealing to local chiefs, elders, and the youth to maintain calm and opt for peaceful avenues to address any grievances. Authorities emphasize that this measure aims to stabilize the area and foster a secure environment for all residents.

In conjunction with the curfew, a complete prohibition on the possession of firearms and offensive weapons has been enforced. Security personnel are authorized to arrest and prosecute individuals found in violation of this order.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring public safety and peace in the region. The ministry continues to work closely with community leaders to encourage dialogue and foster trust among inhabitants.

The government remains vigilant and committed to its mission of safeguarding the welfare of citizens across the Northern Region.
