In celebration of Africa Month 2026, Apple Music is turning the spotlight on Luanda, Angola, as part of its ongoing Sounds of Africa series. This initiative aims to acknowledge and promote the rich musical heritage of one of Africa’s most culturally significant cities.
Across the continent, urban centers are pivotal in shaping the global music scene, and Luanda is a prime example. The city is renowned for its vibrant rhythms and cultural expressions, which resonate far beyond its borders.
The curated Sounds of Luanda playlist is a collaboration of local artists and influencers such as Teo No Beat, Anna Joyce, and MC Prodígio. This collection showcases a blend of classic and modern tracks that encapsulate the essence of Luanda’s music scene through the ages.
Central to Luanda’s musical identity is semba, a traditional rhythm that has not only defined local culture but also influenced international genres like Brazilian samba. From semba, other globally significant styles such as kizomba, kuduro, and tarraxinha have emerged, contributing to dance culture worldwide.
“Luanda is more than just a city; it’s a source of inspiration and a stage for our stories,” remarks producer Teo No Beat. “The playlist reflects our community, struggles, celebrations, and aspirations, offering a narrative of our journey.”
In addition to the playlist, an exclusive DJ mix by Angolan DJ Malvado is available, featuring tracks from artists like AfroKillerz, Djeff, and DJ Waldo. This mix embodies the pulsating energy and dynamic spirit found on Luanda’s dancefloors.
“This selection allows me to share the essence of our music’s joy and vitality,” DJ Malvado explains. “In Angola, music and dance are inseparable, characterized by rhythm, creativity, and passion.”
Through the Sounds of Africa, Apple Music underscores Luanda’s lasting impact—a musical legacy that honors tradition while embracing global evolution.
