In a high-profile defamation case, actress Rebel Wilson is being sued by Charlotte MacInnes, a 27-year-old emerging actor, for allegedly defamatory statements made on social media. The controversy emerged after MacInnes starred in Wilson’s directorial debut, ‘The Deb.’
MacInnes claims that Wilson’s posts painted her as dishonest, suggesting she retracted a sexual harassment complaint to further her career. The incident in question involves a medical episode with co-producer Amanda Ghost, who, after falling ill at Bondi Beach, shared a bath with MacInnes to recover.
In testimony, Wilson expressed initial shock at MacInnes’ disclosure but later discussed the incident with Greer Simpkin, the film’s local producer. Simpkin did not immediately act upon the information, stating she was unaware of any discomfort until later discussions with Ghost.
Simpkin eventually facilitated MacInnes’ move from an apartment shared with Ghost, citing the need for more space. However, MacInnes’ agent later clarified that MacInnes harbored no discomfort towards Ghost, whom she admired.
Despite Simpkin’s efforts to resolve the misunderstanding, Wilson maintains that MacInnes altered her account in exchange for career opportunities, including a lead role and a record deal. The ongoing trial continues to capture public attention as it unfolds.
