Amid ongoing challenges, the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshoeft, has commended the steady advancement in northern Ghana. Despite facing threats from regional instability and limited opportunities, the region’s resilience remains evident.
After a comprehensive four-day tour, Landshoeft shared insights into the prevailing conditions and his engagements with local communities and security agencies. His journey spanned from Tamale to Paga, including key areas in the Upper West and Savannah Regions.
During his visit, the ambassador reviewed vital security installations. He assessed a vehicle workshop for the Ghana Immigration Service in Tamale and the Paga border post, both supported by Germany with vital logistical and protective resources.
The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group is overseeing the construction of a vehicle maintenance hub in Tamale, intended to enhance northern operations by 2026, with further expansions planned for Bolgatanga and Wa.
In Wa, a tour of a dog kennel facility designed to bolster security efforts was conducted, with similar projects underway nationwide.
The ambassador’s visit also spotlighted community support through the Coastal State Stability Mechanism in Lambussie-Karni and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba districts. Landshoeft distributed police vehicles, motorbikes, medical supplies, and educational furniture to these communities.
This initiative is part of a collaborative effort involving the International Organization for Migration and countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Germany’s broader partnership with Ghana, through organizations like GIZ and KfW, remains focused on enhancing governance, livelihood improvement, infrastructure investment, and peacebuilding in the north.
Reaffirming Germany’s dedication, the ambassador emphasized continued support for Ghana’s security and development initiatives, particularly in its most vulnerable regions.
