Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed strong disapproval of the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa, labeling it a significant betrayal of African unity. During a formal event at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, Ablakwa highlighted the disturbing trend of targeting Africans, referencing a video widely shared on social media depicting the assault of Ghanaian national Emmanuel Asamoah.
Ablakwa’s remarks coincided with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Ghana and Sierra Leone. He emphasized the necessity for African nations to adhere to principles of cooperation and mutual respect, warning that such xenophobic actions could undermine efforts toward continental integration and collaborative development.
These comments emerge amid growing concerns for the safety of African migrants in South Africa, many of whom are engaged in legitimate business activities. The Ghanaian government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its citizens while promoting a spirit of solidarity across the continent.
