The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has raised urgent concerns regarding the detention of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). The group is demanding immediate clarification from the government on the legal grounds for his arrest and his current location.
In a statement, the CDM expressed alarm over the circumstances surrounding Ofosu Nkansah’s apprehension, highlighting significant constitutional implications. The organization reported that he had complied fully with the authorities, appearing voluntarily before the NIB on February 5, 2026, accompanied by his legal counsel, only to be released without any charges.
However, the situation escalated when Ofosu Nkansah requested to reschedule a follow-up appointment from February 10 to February 11 due to a family emergency involving a critically ill parent. Upon arriving at the NIB on the revised date, he was reportedly taken to his home for a search without being presented with a valid warrant. Following this, he was allegedly transported to an undisclosed location, leaving his legal team unaware of his whereabouts.
“The treatment of Mr. Nkansah indicates a troubling violation of due process and fundamental rights,” the CDM’s statement declared. They emphasized that Ghana’s democratic principles are rooted in the rule of law and the separation of powers, underscoring that no citizen should endure arbitrary detention or coercion absent judicial oversight.
Furthermore, the CDM urged the Presidency and relevant state entities to ensure that investigative agencies operate independently and adhere to constitutional protocols. They called for all inquiries to respect due process and the rights of individuals involved, reiterating that the rule of law is essential for democratic governance.
This incident comes amid broader allegations involving Nkansah related to claims of selling scholarships worth over GH¢100,000, raising additional scrutiny on the situation.
