Sam Jonah Highlights Otumfuo’s Influence on Global Peace Initiatives

At a significant gathering in Kumasi, Sir Sam Jonah, Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, extolled the virtues of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a pivotal figure in promoting global peace. Celebrating the Asantehene’s 27th year on the throne, Jonah emphasized the importance of Otumfuo’s dedication to dialogue and peace, traits that he believes are essential for global stability.

Addressing attendees at the Manhyia Palace, Jonah highlighted Otumfuo’s 2019 address at the United Nations, where he advocated for the integration of traditional leadership within modern governance structures. Jonah remarked, ‘Traditional leaders like Otumfuo are not merely historical figures; they are essential architects of the peace the world desperately needs.’

Jonah expressed concern over current global tensions, citing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East that threaten international harmony. He underscored the need for leadership that prioritizes dialogue over warfare. ‘We are in troubled times, with international alliances at risk. Leaders like Otumfuo offer a roadmap to peace through sustained dialogue and moral authority,’ he stated.

The gala, organized by the Diaspora Affairs Office and E ON 3 Group, brought together a diverse group of leaders from politics, business, and traditional sectors. Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other dignitaries attended the event under the theme ‘Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.’

Sir Jonah concluded by stating that the world requires more leaders like Otumfuo, who embody peace and dialogue, to replace the reliance on military power. This event marked not only a celebration of Otumfuo’s leadership but also a call for global leaders to adopt similar peaceful approaches.
