President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong support for ongoing efforts to enhance Ghana’s border security and modernize the country’s immigration services. During a meeting with the Ghana Immigration Service’s Governing Council at Jubilee House, President Mahama pledged the government’s commitment to addressing logistical challenges faced by the Service.
The meeting, attended by Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, aimed to introduce Council members to the President and discuss recent governance reforms. President Mahama highlighted the critical role of the Ghana Immigration Service as the primary gateway into the nation and a representation of national sovereignty.
Praising the Council’s innovative Project SECOBOR (Secure Our Borders), President Mahama emphasized the initiative’s importance in securing borders through collaboration with both public and private sectors. He assured continued governmental support to improve operational conditions for the Service.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak detailed current reforms, including the construction of seven new Regional Immigration Offices across the country. These developments are part of broader efforts to enhance public access to services and reinforce border management.
Council Chairman Rev. Stephen Wengam called for presidential backing for SECOBOR, aiming to boost the Ghana Immigration Service’s capabilities through strategic partnerships. President Mahama commended the Minister and the Council for their dedication and vowed to ensure the Service’s effective performance.
