Grave Desecration in Ashanti Region Sparks Outrage Among Residents

The community of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region is grappling with shock and disbelief following a disturbing incident involving the desecration of graves in the local public cemetery. Among the affected sites is the grave of the recently deceased queen mother, whose remains were found disturbed under alarming circumstances.

Reports indicate that the grave of the 85-year-old matriarch, who passed away last year, was forcibly opened by unidentified individuals. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the perpetrators not only exhumed the body but also severed the head, leaving it several meters away from the grave site.

This act has instigated a wave of fear and outrage within the community, as many suspect it may be tied to ritualistic practices. Kwame Effa, the cemetery’s gravedigger, recounted his shock upon arriving at the scene after receiving an urgent alert. He stated, “When I arrived, the grave had clearly been tampered with. The coffin was opened, and the body was removed, with the head missing. I suspect this may have been done for ritual purposes.”

Yaw Nsoh, the son of the deceased, expressed his devastation over the disturbing treatment of his mother’s remains. He confirmed that while the coffin and other burial items remained intact, the head was horrifyingly absent. “I cannot allow anyone to disgrace my mother’s memory. I will seek justice through all legal avenues,” he affirmed.

Kwame Nkrumah, the Assembly Member representing the Akyeremade Electoral Area, characterized the incident as unprecedented and called for immediate investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible. As the community grapples with the implications of this unsettling event, many residents are left questioning the safety and sanctity of their burial grounds.
