Carlos Queiroz Strategizes Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Campaign

Carlos Queiroz, the newly appointed head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars, has vowed to keep his strategic cards close to his chest as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Speaking at a high-profile event at Alisa Hotel, the seasoned coach highlighted his commitment to crafting a winning formula for the tournament but refrained from divulging specific tactics due to the scrutiny from rival teams.

“Panama is listening in, so I won’t elaborate on our strategies too much,” Queiroz commented, underscoring the competitive landscape of the World Cup qualifiers. The Portuguese coach, renowned for his tenure with clubs like Real Madrid and national teams including Portugal and Iran, aims to leverage his extensive experience to lead Ghana to success in the upcoming event in North America.

With a career spanning engagements with several national teams such as South Africa, Egypt, and Qatar, the 73-year-old Queiroz brings a wealth of knowledge to the Ghanaian side. His history of guiding teams through the World Cup stages, notably with Portugal in 2010 and Iran in subsequent editions, positions him as a formidable leader for the Black Stars.

Ghana’s journey in the 2026 World Cup will commence with a match against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. This initial confrontation will be followed by challenging fixtures against England and Croatia in the group stage. Queiroz is set to kick-start preparations, emphasizing readiness and resilience among the players.

Queiroz has also expressed a strong belief in meritocracy within the team, stating, “No one owns the national team shirt.” He intends to closely monitor local talents, including the Black Galaxies, as part of his broader strategy to strengthen the team’s competitive edge.
