Lewis Hamilton expressed surprise at Ferrari’s performance in the Miami Sprint Qualifying, as he anticipated a stronger showing from the team. Hamilton finished in seventh place, while Charles Leclerc, who initially set a promising pace, secured the fifth spot.
Ferrari had high hopes with significant upgrades introduced for the Miami Grand Prix. Leclerc led the timings during initial practice sessions, yet the final Sprint Qualifying saw McLaren’s Lando Norris take pole position, leaving Ferrari trailing.
Hamilton remarked on the unexpected outcome, noting that the car did not meet his expectations. “We had hoped for a better performance. The new package didn’t feel great today, and we need to investigate further,” he stated.
Leclerc echoed Hamilton’s concerns, acknowledging that while upgrades were made, competitors also improved. He pointed out tire issues as a specific challenge, “The medium tires worked well, but the softs were problematic. We need to address this to improve our Qualifying pace.” Despite the setback, Leclerc remained optimistic about the race, suggesting that Ferrari’s race pace could offer a competitive edge.
As the team looks towards the main race, both drivers are keen to analyze the data and make necessary adjustments, hopeful of advancing their positions in the upcoming events.
