The future composition of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, remains uncertain as newly appointed coach Carlos Queiroz evaluates his options for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has acknowledged the preliminary nature of the selection process, indicating that decisions regarding new player inclusions have not yet been finalized.
Speaking during a media briefing organized by the US Embassy, Asante Twum highlighted the ongoing deliberations, noting that Coach Queiroz is actively assessing the current squad. “Decisions on new players are still pending,” he stated. “The coach has just assumed his role and is in the process of engaging with both current and potential team members.”
Queiroz, known for his methodical approach, plans to evaluate all players, including those currently sidelined by injuries. This comprehensive assessment aims to ensure that the best possible team is assembled, factoring in both active and recovering athletes. “He is committed to visiting all players to gauge their readiness,” Asante Twum added.
While the introduction of new faces remains speculative, the issue of player injuries already poses a challenge. Despite this, the team maintains a core of strong players ready for upcoming matches. The coach’s strategy for integrating fresh talent and managing injuries remains a focal point as the provisional squad announcement approaches in mid-May.
Speculation also surrounds the formation of the technical team, with Asante Twum clarifying that details will be disclosed during an upcoming press conference. As Ghana prepares for the World Cup, all eyes are on Queiroz’s approach to squad development and tactical innovations.
