Russian Embassy Addresses Controversy Over Viral Videos in Ghana

The Russian Embassy in Ghana has issued a statement in response to the growing public outcry related to viral videos featuring a Russian individual interacting with Ghanaian women in Accra. The embassy acknowledged the media reports regarding the incident on February 16, 2026, expressing that it is aware of the situation.

In a message posted on its social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the embassy remarked, “We have taken note of the reports concerning the alleged involvement of a supposed Russian citizen engaging in inappropriate activities with Ghanaian women, which were recorded without their consent.” However, the embassy did not specify any forthcoming actions or measures it plans to implement in response.

This incident has gained significant attention on social media, where users from Ghana and across Africa have voiced their outrage. The individual at the center of the controversy is reportedly named Vyacheslav Trahov, who has been recognized in the videos for approaching women in public settings and inviting them to his home. Reports indicate that these interactions were secretly filmed using smart glasses, allegedly without the consent of the participants.

The videos have circulated widely on various platforms, including Telegram, TikTok, and YouTube, with some content being placed behind paywalls. This has led to a wave of criticism aimed at both the man involved and the women featured in the recordings.

The situation intensified further when Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, revealed that the government is contemplating extraditing Trahov to Ghana to face legal proceedings. The embassy’s acknowledgment of the issue highlights the seriousness of the situation and the international scrutiny it has attracted.
